8O Man! That's some heavy duty machinery! 8O

What I'm hoping for Jeff, when you do start on the H2 pipes, is a set of H2 replica Dencos constructed to fit an H2 motor in a 69-72 H1 frame, as that is a project a couple of us Nor Cal guys are each planning to build.

I know this wouldn't be a mass-produced configuration, but more likely a "special order" deal.

Porchedave put an H2 motor in and H1 and was able to mount standard H2 chambers on it, they weren’t Dencos, but normal H2 design chambers may fit? Dave can probably verify this...

Were are you located? I probably won’t be moving on this too soon, as the H2 will be the next target, although I own an S2 as well... Didn't Wirges suffer from performance issues?

The head pipes are 321 (this alloy is used in aircraft exhaust and has excellent high temperature corrosion resistance) the rest is 304...

Should be quicker to build since the Wirgeless pipes have one less cone than Dencos...

I found the same thing, they don't work too bad. :? (no comparision to modern pipes though... :) )
Did the ole Denco's perform much betteron the small triples or are they just slightly better than the wirges?

It's been posted a bunch of times, The Werges for the "S" series seem to work well. It's the H1/H2 street pipes that do nothing........

Andrew, when I had Dencos on my KH400 years ago, they worked GREAT, and compared to the Wirges that I just replaced them with, the Wirges felt, well...Wirgeless! So maybe on the 350 or smaller they work okay, but I wouldn't bother with them on a 400.

$0.02 :D

Very nice lathe Jeff. Not sure how much experience you have turning stainless, but surface footage and depth of cut is very critical to long tool life.

What do you have for tooling? Have you purchased any indexable holders? They're cheaper in the long run than brazed tip carbide.

Any questions, please don't hestitate to ask.

Jeff

I have a set of h2 denco's hanging in the garage next to a set of 400 wirges, no comparison with the quality that's for sure. The wirges look like cheap knock offs next to them.
I'm not up on what the prices back then but they must have been 1/2 the cost to have so many wirges still kickin around compared to denco's.
I suppose agree with you… there isn't much point trying to copy a mediocre pipe.

Well, back in '88, my NEW KH Wirges cost $199 direct from them in Princeton IL. And a few months later, my USED chrome Dencos cost $110 (which I sold last year for $449 to a guy in the UK). 8O

But I think alot of Wirges are still around and in relatively good condition compared to the Dencos, because as III suggested not too long ago, everyone must have tried them on their triples, found them lacking power, and subsequently removed them and hung them from the rafters.

I have a set of almost brand new Pro-Flo pipes for an S2 you could take some numbers off of. I'd need them back soon though since I plan on selling them. Let me know.
